How's Life - A Week Later
So now that I have officially been a Mommy of two for one whole week, how is life.......
Well, let's start from the beginning.
Breastfeeding: In the hospital Henry's first "bite to eat" was straight from the nip. And let's just say that is NOT for me. Idk. Maybe because I envisioned a fire hose spraying milk out for my kid to drink and the little drips that I produced frustrated the heck outa me. I don't know. I just like when things happen the right way, the first time, just like I had planned on them working, and let's just say that should be the first rule in breastfeeding. Patience. lol. Or maybe I should have taken a class. Whoops. Google and blogger is a class, right? Ha. So then I tried pumping in the hospital. Again, expected fire hose and nothing. Didn't help that I didn't have the most helpful nurses and the lactation specialist didn't come until late afternoon on Wednesday. I'm pretty sure if she wouldn't have come in I don't even think I would have tried it at home. It wasn't until Thursday evening that I pumped a good amount and was excited and "pumped" about doing this whole thing. I even sent out a text to a few of my BF-ing friends saying, "I did it!!" lol. But boy oh boy did I not know about something else. Supposedly there are a list of some foods you should avoid eating your first month or so of breastfeeding. Yeah that would have been good to know. Because that next night, whatever I ate, Henry did NOT like and we ALL paid for it. If the nearest CVS/Walgreen's open 24 hours wasn't 30 minutes away I would have made Josh drive there and get some Baby GasX. Nothing is more frustrating knowing that what you ate and in turn pumped for your baby has upset their tummy so much. I thought I knew what it was so I steered clear of it. And then it happened again, and yesterday it happened again, along with trying to get three people ready for family pictures, Momma had a breakdown. It was bad. Thank you hormones. So we made the decision that for every one's sanity, Mommy should stop. Idk how many of you this has happened to, but it is very frustrating because you feel like you have failed your child. But he is taking Enfamil Newborn like a champ and I can't complain.
Sister: Ha, Thursday when we picked her up from the sitters on our way home she did good. Until we GOT home and Mommy sat down to hold him. All hell broke lose. For TWO hours!! Oh it was fun. On the floor throwing a fit, crying, no one could hold brother, NOTHING. And then that night trying to put both kids to bed. Wow-wee, brother COULD have probably slept pretty easily if sister wasn't crying like no other. I think it was close to midnight night before everyone was in bed. The next day Josh went back to work so it was just me, Stella and Henry. She woke up and once she saw brother, all hell broke lose again. I guess she thought he was going to leave through the night or something. We had a bit of a rough morning, but we made it through. And then that night when brother got his first upset tummy, ha, I think it was about 2 in the morning and we were ALL sitting up just starring at each other. If brother wasn't crying, sister was. Ha, I think about 3:30 Josh finally got up and put Stella in her own bed and Henry and I woke up in the recliner around 5 when Josh's alarm clock went off. Fun fun. PTL it was a Friday, but Josh works Saturdays so ready or not, the morning would come again and we would start all over. Luckily Saturday morning Stella woke up and decided to like brother. Getting her out of bed was a different story. And finally about day three we were in a routine and Stella LOVES her brother, ok, 80% of the time she does. As long as they are doing the same thing.
Every morning she wakes up and goes over to him and says, "Hey Bud!" And usually ends up saying it about 2398 times a day. But it's super cute. She likes to give him kisses too. We are trying our best not to tell her "no" when she does something to brother. And more of, easy, gentle, be nice, and that seems to go over MUCH better. But she still thinks she needs to be RIGHT next to Mommy if I am going to be in the chair with brother. Or right on my other hip if Henry is in my arm.
Brother: Honestly I think brother sleeps with one eye open.
Ha, the looks he gives his sister are hilarious. Like girl, WHAT is your deal. He is so relaxed (when he doesn't have Mommy's breast milk in him). He is kind of a binky baby, but not too much. He's a pee-er, that's for sure. AND a TRUE boy. Wakes up, shits, eats, shits some more, chills out for a bit and goes back to sleep. Ha. Like father like son. His "surgery" is healing well. That was a whole new world for me. And a LOT of pressure on a new Mommy who didn't know much about boys. I don't want to be the reason his "thing" looks funny. I was an A&D acholic. But it has completely healed and looks good. (Ha, sorry Henry you will hate me some day for writing about your wee wee on here). All in all, he is a great baby!!
Uncle Brent thinks he's going to be a chewer.....lol. |
Sleeping: Stella has been sleeping MUCH better. Back to going to bed between 9 - 9:30 and usually sleeps until 7:30. Henry sleeps about every 3 to 4 hours. It's GREAT! Daddy usually puts Henry to bed and that's about 10:30 or 11, and I put Stella to bed. Henry is usually back up around 1:00 for a bottle, then back to bed and up around 3:30 - 4ish up for awhile but sleeps until Stella wakes up and starts poking around at him. Mommy, well, it's amazing how fast your body adjusts to lack of sleep. Honestly I'm not doing too bad. I don't really even nap much while he kids are napping. I kinda sit in the peace and quite and enjoy it. However, the coffee pot is usually on until noon.
Abbie (the dog): AMAZING. Loving all of the visitors because they seem to be the only ones who give her attention. Sorry, Ab. I don't think she has eaten out of her dog bowl all week because Stella usually ends up sharing whatever she is eating with her. Ha, at least it's not going to waste. She has for the most part left Henry alone. I have caught Ab sleeping in his boppy a time or two. But if that's the least of my worries, then so be it.
So needless to say, we have survived week one. We tried family/newborn pictures last night and ha, those were interesting to say the least. Henry did NOT want to sleep, and Stella just did NOT want to cooperate. Mommy was stressed to the MAX, and therefore no one wanted to cook so straight to Tequila's we went and the first thing outa my mouth was, "I'll have a margarita, on the rocks, with salt." I may or may not have added the words PRONTO to the end. lol. Kidding.

Awww. Yay. I'm sure everything will get easier! It's a lot of adjusting to do!
That's one thing I am scared of with Zo... When it comes time for me to have another... She's been a MOMMY'S girl from day 1... for over 5 years now... But hopefully with her age, she'll take it a little easier! Worries me to death!
I just want to give you a big WAY TO GO! You are doing awesome at this! You are really someone I could look up to for being such a great mother and doing awesome at this! I am not good at any of this, but if you need anything...text me/call me!
Wow girl. That's some pretty hefty stress you've got going on there. If you need anything, just let me know. I'm in Red Bud until 5:00 every day. And dude...if you run out of Titanics, I have tons of them. I have plenty of sail boats and row boats too.
Sounds like you are doing an amazing job at juggling everything!!
Thanks Nikki.
Awwww, thanks Kac. Sometimes just the company is all we need. Because lord knows it's a zoo here.
Heather - HILARIOUS!!
you are doing a wonderful job! I couldnt even begin to imagine! He is super cute :)
Are you gonna continue to use Enfamil when he is done with the newborn stage? If so I can save my coupons for you. I use parents choice (Enfamil infant) so you are more than welcome to have them. Just let me know and I can give them to Heather to give to Pam.
Ashley that would be awesome!! Yes, thank you so much!!
No problem!
You are a super mom now!! =)
I was totally freaked out when I saw Brody's little surgery for the first time too....ouch ouch ouch! I've never seen anything like that before!
High five for you for trying BF-ing and don't feel bad about it....if your happy then Henry (and the rest of your family) will be happy too!
I THINK, you should just swing over to Ms Preston's house will that little handsome devil next Friday for Bunco! Just for a visit....

was wondering how you were doing at home with 2 little ones! i appreciate your honesty b/c i know it can't be easy (and your stories were CRACKING ME UP). by the time he is 3 or 4 months old, you will totally have all your routines down. you are a rockstar!
aww I think you're doing a great job! With all the madness from Landon & Stella on Saturday, everything still seemed to go smoothly. I promise I will never come to your house again without B!
Yikes!
Love you guys so much! Henry is one lucky little boy!!!
You are a rock star mom! I am sure it will all get easier and easier! Hopfully Stella will come all the way around and love Henry 100%!
I am still freaked out that I am going to screw up Ty's wee wee! There is too much stress for something so small! Lol
Sounds like you are handling everything well. It's so hard when your hubs goes back to work right away and you are alone and freaked.
Cassie - that brings back so many memories. Katie and Bekah are 18 months apart so I can totally relate to your life. But it is so worth it!
Cassie, I enjoy reading your blog! You are so funny and I love your mommy hood and life adventures! Good luck with your new little one!
Mindy Bradley
