Good Books

I have been the proud owner of this little book since before Stella was born.  And I think I have read it 1310898 times.  I love it.  It's a keeper.

And it makes me cry every time.  No matter what section I am reading from.  It's the truest of true things and totally makes you think of you and your Dad and of course your daughter and husband.  And it's perfect for Dads who aren't used to girls and their "ways."  It includes cute little sayings like:
Tickle her, play with her, give her piggyback rides. She's not breakable.
Show her how to climb up a tree. Also, how to climb down.
Be home for dinner on time. This is very important.
Make sure she knows she can call you at any time and you will go get her. This is why the cell phone was invented.
Give her a piggybank when she's little. She's never too young to learn the value of saving.
Help her understand that there's more to life than wearing the right jeans.
Prepare for the day when you're not the most important man in her life.
I mean hello, weeping already at my desk.  So true!!
So then this got me thinking, I need one of these for me and my soon to be son!!  Because we all know I don't know much about boys.  It's been girl city in my world for the past 24 years.  And PTL the author of the previous book wrote this one with his wife.
And yep, this baby is on it's way to my house.  And with the hormonal mess I have been lately, I'm sure to be sobbing reading it with my husband looking at me life "wtf is wrong with you."  You would think by kid number two he would get it by now.  Nope.  I am already tearing up reading the description on Amazon:
Watch out when you’re changing his diaper. Baby boys shoot straight in the air.
There will be times when the last thing in the world you want to tell him is no. But sometimes you’ll have to.
Have tea with him in the afternoons. Serve cookies
He is not a child anymore, but he’s not an adult either. Treating him like either one will lead to disaster.
Treat his father with love and respect. Show your son that being a man is a good thing.
Hug him fiercely.
Love it!!

I am also considering their books on Mother to Daughter and Father to Son.
Have a skipping contest. This is especially good for when you need to get somewhere fast.
Share stories of your mother and grandmothers with her. Remember, girls are keepers of the flame.
Understand that for girls, independence usually starts with hair. Ask yourself, how important is it really if it’s blue?
Let her see you give of yourself unselfishly. Not just your money, but your time, your patience, and love.
Teach her how to change a tire, use an electric drill, mow the lawn. She should never depend on some guy to do it for her.

Father to Son:
Show him how to eat an Oreo.
Show him how to put a baseball in a new glove and wrap a belt around it.
Do push-ups together.
Race him. You'll never forget the day he beats you.
Be sure to meet his girlfriends.
If his favorite thing about organized sports is the uniform, let him wear it to school.
Hang a punching bag in the garage.
Never tell him boys don't cry-ask him why he's crying.
Make him understand that even a small lie makes him a liar.
Teach him the joy of finishing a job.

They are just small and cute little books to keep out in the living room (and hope that your kids don't destroy).  But if they do, oh well, they are replaceable and like eight bucks.  And these are perfect for all the new Moms and Dads I feel like I know out there!!  And don't forget to check out Adrien's post awhile back on the Father to Daughter book they have.  Yep, I still tear up every time.  Pregnant or not.  You did good there Adrien!
Ok, I'm done being the hormonal mess I am.  Promise, sweet happy stuff later this week.....hopefully.

I am totally going to purchase "Father to Daughter", and while doing that...I just might even have to get "Mother to daughter." :)
And this book don't really apply to your post, but I wanted to share: I just got done reading "Heaven is for real" AMAZING book that I think EVERYONE should read. You will want to read it more than once. You can read excerpts from the book at www.heavenisforreal.net A.MAZ.ING!
I am also in love with the "power of a praying...." books by Stormie Omartian. I have read the "power of a praying wife" and bought my husband the "power of a praying husband" GREAT books. They have "power of a praying parent" series' out there that will be my next purchase!
And there are my must-reads that I just wanted to share :)

no, you don't have to look up any bible versus, that is one thing I like about it, cause it was like pulling teeth to get Micah to read his book, I could never get him to look up bible versus. I just made sure I put this book in the bathroom- where I put everything else I want him to read, lol.
